Firstly, we're announcing that we'll start to sell clothes and accessories for women. Within a few weeks, we will present a collection that women of all ages can feel good about wearing. We're not quite there yet, but we thought you'd like to know.
If you have a favourite ethical clothing company (or run one!), please let us know by email and we'll look into including it too. We all need to stick together to promote ethicalwear!
Secondly, we're happy to announce that, as of TODAY, we're working with our sister company, Cecily Plum to highlight ethical clothes for mums-to-be and new mums. WHY? because that's a market that really needs an ethical option.
Over the last few months Cecily Plum has been gradually discovering ethical designers. The task is on-going, and CP hasn't completely finished the job, but we have decided to start showcasing all CP's success stories here. Also, it helps put CP under the spotlight to ensure further progress. So, if you know anyone who is pregnant, now you can send them here!
What remains to be done? CP is struggling to find ethical baby changing bags. While they're careful what they sell, we would love to hear from anyone who knows of a high-quality collection of eco, recycled or fair-trade baby changing bags.
As always, if you can't see what you want here, feel free to email us,
The idea of Plum Ethical is to gather together some really special handbags and clothes. They're special not just because they're gorgeous, they're also 'ethical' in some way. This means they might be animal-free, crafted sustainably from recycled materials, or fair-trade. Mostly, they are all three.
Feel free to contact us if you have and special concerns that you'd like to discuss with us before buying, we'd love to hear from you.
A number of people have said they really want to support what we're trying to do. If you find that you'd like to help, this press release might be useful - use it on your blog, on Facebook, a forum, anywhere you like - and thank you!
PRESS RELEASE July 1st, 2009: [for immediate release]
"Plum Ethical are really proud and excited to present their first collection of leather-free handbags, eco friendly bags and other ethical products.
"Discover beautiful eco bags, including purses and handbags and designer recycled bags.
"Plum Ethical also has a cool little range of man bags from 'vegetarian leather' messenger bags to mens bags crafted from re-claimed inner tubes.
"Our eco bags are produced by crest-of-the-wave ethical bag designers including E&KO, Neumatica, PlanetSilverChilli, and The Rubber Cow Co. Each bag, except the Rubber Cow bags, is crafted from sustainable fabric including non-leather, rubber, recycled firehoses and even ring pulls - ethical bags have never looked this desirable"
Finally, if you're looking for baby change bags, you'll find it hard to get a truly ethical bag. Our sister company does what it can, with a range of non-leather bags, and succeeds more than you might expect. Click the link to see their range of baby changing bags. Or please tell us if you've found (or sell) any full-on ethical baby changing bags, because we want to start selling them too, and there's basically nothing out there at the moment.
